Protecting Your Home the Old Way

By Haggath ·

A home is the first thing a witch guards, mój drogi. In the countryside around Kraków, every house carried small protections, and many of them you can still see on old doors today.

Chalk on the lintel

After Epiphany, families still write the year and three letters above the door in blessed chalk. Older still is the habit of marking the threshold at all — telling every passing thing that this house is watched over.

Salt, garlic and iron

Salt along the doorstep. A braid of garlic in the kitchen. A horseshoe nailed above the barn, ends up so the luck does not run out. Each is a little lock on the door.

Keep the hearth warm

Our grandmothers believed the hearth was the heart of the house, and a cold hearth invited misfortune. Today that may only be a candle on the table — but light in a home is still a protection.

Would you like me to cast for you?

When a home needs more than chalk and salt, I cast for it. See my protection & cleansing spells.

Results vary. A spell is a spiritual practice, not a guarantee, and never a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.
